Safety
The Ubatuba Wild Safety System
We don't eliminate nature's risks. We prepare for them.
The Atlantic Forest is extraordinary — and real. Weather changes, terrain is uneven, and in many places there is no phone signal. Every experience is designed around a clear process for what happens before you go, while you're in the forest, and if something doesn't go to plan.
Ubatuba Wild has not started operating yet. The system below is the standard every experience is being built on — not a description of services already running. As each part becomes operational, this page will say so.
Before
Decisions made before anyone steps onto the trail.
Planned operational standardWeather assessment
Conditions checked before every outing. If they make the route unsafe, the route changes or the day is rescheduled.
Route assessment
Trail conditions reviewed ahead of time, including river crossings and slippery sections after rain.
Briefing
Before starting: the plan, the terrain, what to expect and what to do in an unexpected situation.
Participant list
Who is in the group, an emergency contact for each person and any health information relevant to the day.
Clear difficulty information
Difficulty, duration and requirements stated before booking — so you choose what's right for you.
During
How the group is looked after in the forest.
Planned operational standardContinuous guidance
The group is accompanied at all times, at a pace set by the group, not by the schedule.
Communication plan
A defined way to stay in contact with someone outside the forest during the experience.
Offline navigation
Routes available offline, so navigation doesn't depend on phone signal.
First-aid kit
A first-aid kit carried on every experience.
Small groups
Groups kept small enough for everyone to be seen, heard and helped.
Emergency preparedness
What happens if something doesn't go to plan.
Planned operational standardAlternative routes
Known alternatives for each route if a section becomes unsafe.
Planned evacuation points
Identified in advance for each route, before any group walks it.
Delay protocol
If the group is not back by an agreed time, a contact outside the forest starts a defined procedure.
Emergency communication
A plan for reaching help from places where normal phone signal may not exist.
Response plan
Step-by-step actions for injuries, getting lost, sudden weather and other foreseeable situations.
What we will never say
No one can promise that nature is without risk, and we won't pretend to. What we can do is take risk seriously, plan for it, and be honest with you about it — including when the right decision is not to go.
Your part
- Tell us honestly about your health, fitness and experience.
- Wear the footwear and clothing recommended for your experience.
- Follow the guide's instructions on the trail.
- Say so if you're not comfortable. Turning back is always an option.
Questions
Questions travelers ask
What happens if the weather changes?
Weather is assessed before every outing. If conditions make a route unsafe, the route changes or the experience is rescheduled. The rescheduling and refund policy will be published before booking opens.
Are there snakes?
Yes. The Atlantic Forest is home to snakes, including venomous species. Awareness is part of the planned briefing — where to step, what to wear and what to do if you see one — and snakebite is covered in the planned emergency response.
Is phone signal available?
Often not. Coverage inside the forest is irregular and in many places absent. That's why the safety system is designed not to depend on it: offline navigation, a communication plan and a delay protocol.
